That's why there is a pop culture that encompasses everything -- I think our music knowledge grows when we gravitate towards what we hear via tv, school, shopping centers, etc. Movies helped; Disney introduced Hannah Montana and many others. I think school had to do with it. And dance music easily responds to kids. Easily Bieber's world. Even Ylvis and 1D.
To be honest, I don't even remember how I got connected to MTV and how I ended up choosing specific genres. I was really into rock. Then dance-techno, then jazz, then rock and dance-techno got mixed up somehow?
